Bugzy’s Dogs

This 8 week dog training class for our two puppies was excellent. It taught them, and us, recall techniques, how to ignore distractions, how to keep them focussed on us, gave us and them more confidence in saying no to strangers giving our dogs treats(!), how to cope with noises, stay techniques, loose lead walking, doorway manners( eg not rushing out), and more. Fun to do and great to meet other dog owners, although socialisation with them was certainly not the aim. Karen also gave us 1-1 training, before and when our puppies arrived, teaching us that bonding with their humans was far more important for obedience training than socialisation with the world. Friendly, relaxed training classes, our puppy now realises she does not have to rush up to great every dog or person she sees and listens to me more. My other dog barks a lot at other dogs but this has reduced a lot which is quite a result! Nicola

[My puppy] and myself had a great time learning with Bugzy's Dogs. We changed classes after a few weeks as Karen suggested it would be more beneficial to [my puppy] to gain her confidence as such a young puppy. We learnt so much from the whole team, which we were encouraged to continue at home throughout the week. This definitely helped in both mine and my puppies confidence and experience. I contacted Karen a couple of months ago for support with my cute, but very cheeky young cavapoo. He had developed a number of nuisance behaviours which were becoming difficult to deal with. He guarded everything he found – socks, shoes, tea towels, sticks, crisp packets! He jumped up at visitors, at food prep time, and always had his nose in the dishwasher. He didn’t settle easily, and visits to other people’s houses were a real strain, as in his mind, he thought everything he saw belonged to him. He had also developed scavenging behaviour which was a concern. Over a number of sessions, Karen talked me through very helpful training techniques. By the end of the first session, he had responded to the leave command, and the guarding of shoes, socks, and his instinct to own everything he saw is now a thing of the past. We now have a much calmer and mature dog, who has learnt good self control and is making much better and safer decisions for himself. Gone is the need to constantly supervise him, and after an initial burst of excitement when he sees friends/family, he settles down much more easily. We are working on a couple of remaining issues but I know I now have the tools to overcome these. Karen is highly experienced dog trainer and has great knowledge in dog psychology and behaviour. If you are struggling like I did, I strongly recommend you getting in touch with her for help. By working with her and doing practice homework between sessions, you will have a much happier and well behaved dog. I’m so pleased I made the decision to seek her help and cannot thank her enough.

After months of our puppy destroying our house when we left him, we decided that we had to get a dog trainer, we saw an advert in our local SPAN magazine for Bugzy's Dogs Professional Dog Training.

Karen has given us very informative information on how to deal with his anxiety which has helped so much when he is left.

Also has taught positive reinforcement methods, and talked us through sit down, stay, walking nicely on the lead and recall.

Karen helped me with my young, very small dog's unwanted chasing of my horse in the field, or the broom and other tools when I was mucking out. Her calm, methodical way of teaching her to 'leave' when told to was an education to watch, and very effective indeed. Very pleased indeed with the results.

We engaged Karen to help train our willful and over exuberant working line labrador. The initial meeting helped us put things in perspective and we noticed an improvement after the first session which we have continued to build on with her ever since. Working with Karen has been great. I was struggling with walking my dog as he would constantly pull about, but with her help he is much better now and walking is a lot easier. We’re currently working on his off-leash work and he’s gradually improving to the point where he doesn’t run over to every dog to say hi. Would definitely recommend Bugzy’s Dogs for those who seek help with training their dog!
